Brentwood Green at Brentwood Science Magnet School is a nonprofit community partnership founded in 1997 by residents, teachers, parents, LAUSD, and the City of Los Angeles. Its mission was to transform the school’s mostly asphalt campus into a beautiful, welcoming green space for both students and the surrounding Brentwood community. With support from public and private funding and dedicated volunteers, the campus now includes a grass playing field, running track, playgrounds, an outdoor amphitheater, educational gardens, murals, and landscaped areas. Today, Brentwood Green continues to provide a unique community space for youth programs and public use after school, on weekends, during summers, and on holidays.
Brentwood Green could not exist without the generous support of many individuals and organizations, both past and present. We thank our many contributors who have truly helped Brentwood Green to blossom. Our government, organizational and major supporters and affiliates include:
Brentwood Green created and maintains the Barbara Goldenberg Gardens, featuring farm, native plant, butterfly, literary, meditation, Isaac Newton, and Girl Scout gardens.
With the generous support of the Brentwood community, these gardens and the Brentwood Science Magnet School playground remain vibrant, welcoming spaces where children can play, learn, and grow.
This website is dedicated to the memory of Barbara Goldenberg, founder and visionary of Brentwood Green.
